Student Feedback on Mentoring Classes
2023-11-18
Everest English School is on a mission to help students excel in their studies, and they've done something pretty impressive.
They've started offering mentoring classes every day for 10th graders. These classes are like having a helpful guide to support and guide the students through their challenging schoolwork. The school began these mentoring classes in the month of Bhadra. The main goal of this new effort is to get the students ready for their SEE (Secondary Education Examination) and to help them understand any tricky topics they might be struggling with. These classes are like a special tool to make sure students do great in their exams and feel confident about their studies. We conducted a brief interview with the students regarding these classes. Here’s the feedback from the students regarding these classes:
What do you like the most about the mentoring classes?
“Since the kickoff of the mentoring classes in the last weeks of Bhadra, I had always been advocating the negative aspect of the morning classes. I was not in favour of attending them as early as 7 in the morning due to my preference being more of a night owl than an early bird. I was also not in favour of morning classes because I had always preferred having some separate time for self-study than focusing only on supervised learning. But as time went by, mentoring classes have been more effective for me in nurturing my nosedive academics.”
“I like the fresh morning start of my study with friends about mentoring class.”
Are the mentoring sessions interactive and engaging?
“Mentoring sessions have been interactive and engaging. It is interactive and engaging since it is in the morning, and it makes me feel like doing more.”
Do you feel comfortable asking questions and seeking help during the mentoring sessions?
“Sometimes I feel uncomfortable to ask questions to teachers as I am afraid to be judged,” a student said in the interview and another student added,” I started having more time for me to ask and clear my doubts about my studies by asking my teachers and friends.”
Are there any specific topics or subjects you would like to see covered in the mentoring classes that are not currently addressed?
“One of the most significant topics that I want to be addressed in the mentoring classes are the classes of optional subjects i.e. account and computer.”
Have you noticed an improvement in your overall confidence and understanding of the subjects since attending these mentoring classes?
“Suddenly I am interested in science and maths, which used to be my hatest subject. I understand more.”
“I was not in favour of the timing of morning classes as it was at 7:15 a.m. in the morning. But as time passed, this time has resulted in being more productive for my studies.”
Do you have any suggestions or comments to make the mentoring classes more beneficial for you and your classmates?
“I would like to have a change in morning class to increase the amount of class tests.”
“To make it more beneficial. I hope teachers go a little slow with the chapters they are teaching.”
“Maybe trying new teaching and studying methods in mentoring classes may be beneficial”
In conclusion, the Mentoring classes have been convenient for enhancing students' comprehensive study but the only drawback is that the class sometimes seems repetitive and has decreased interest to some extent for the day classes to some students.
(Interviews were held among 10 students from different groups in the mentoring classes)
