SQC stands for Student Quality Circle. It is a collaborative effort of a group to achieve a common goal or to complete certain tasks in the most effective way. It develops unity, and communication skills and improves individual character among students. It also interviews the confidence level of a student.

Everest English School organised the 8th Hub convention of SQC where 18 schools took part. In total, 242 students participated in the program with 27 no.of teachers. On the whole, there were 33 circles from the participating schools. This event took place on the 16th of September.

The chief of Bhaktapur Municipality, Mr Sunil Prajapati inaugurated the 8th Hub convention on Student Quality Circle (SQC) 2023. After the inauguration, he mentioned that it is necessary to keep the school as a sacred temple of knowledge away from unwanted activities including closures, strikes, and lockdowns. He said that the government's policy will also play a significant role in the country's educational development. He also stated that Bhaktapur is doing an exemplary implementation of federalism, he expressed the idea that Bhaktapur Municipality is working towards socialism and that the local level should be authorised simultaneously.

The inspiration for educators, a true champion of the student environment and also known as the architecture of SQC, Mr. Dinesh Karki also joined the program. Firstly, he thanked all the individuals who participated in the hub convention and also mentioned that it has been 20 years since he worked for SQC. He welcomed all the SQC participants for the National Hub Convention 2023 which is going to be held in Sauraha, Chitwan. Mr. Dinesh Chapagain also outlined the importance of students in the 21st century.

After the speech on different personalities, the program proceeded towards the panel discussion. The secretary of SQC Nepal, Mr. Subash Lama was the panel moderator for the panel discussion. The captains from 18 schools kept their point of view regarding the questions given to them. After 2 hours of the panel discussion, all the students headed to the classrooms for the case study. They presented their presentation. Then, different competitive events: Collaborative collage, and Story forming took place. Various non-competitive events: Slam poetry, Yoga workshop, Meditation session, and Team building games also took place.

In a similar context, we took a short interview with the host of the program and also the academic coordinator, Miss Sangeeta Kibachhen. Firstly, she expressed her favourite part of the program by saying, “My favourite part was witnessing the incredible talent and creativity displayed by the students during their various performances. Whether it was the cultural dance representing Bhaktapur's rich heritage or the thought-provoking discussions in the panel, every moment showcased the potential and enthusiasm of our future leaders.” As the anchor of the program, she shared the problems or difficulties she faced during the program, saying that there were certainly some challenges to overcome. Ensuring smooth transitions between segments, keeping the energy level high, and managing time were important aspects of her role. However, with the support of the dedicated organising team and the enthusiasm of the participants, they were able to address any issues that arose promptly. We asked her the motivating factor for her to stabilize the energy inside her to handle such a hectic day and the main agenda to organise the 8th Hub Convention. She replied, “The motivating factor that helped me maintain energy throughout the hectic day was the enthusiasm and dedication of the participants, teachers, and guests. Their passion for education and the exchange of ideas was infectious and kept me energised. The main agendas behind organising the 8th Hub Convention were to promote student-centred learning, collaboration, and the development of 21st-century skills. It aimed to provide a platform where students could showcase their talents, engage in meaningful discussions, and explore innovative ways of learning. Additionally, the convention aimed to foster a sense of community among participating schools, encouraging the sharing of knowledge and best practices in education.”

Likewise, we asked some questions to the mentor of the Everest SQC team, Miss Sarina Khadka. We asked her if she had seen some changes in her students after the case study, and he said, “Definitely, I have seen a lot of improvement in their confidence and they have been more able to work in a team. They have been more critical so that they can solve the problems.” She believes that SQC is important for 21st-century students, mentioning, “There are different skills that SQC teaches to a student; collaboration, creativity, critical thinking and communication. These skills are important for today's world.”

Subsequently, the 8th Hub convention of SQC took place at Everest English School, Mibachhen-Bhaktapur. Different schools took part in the program where they did case studies, panel discussions, competitive events, and non-competitive events. Different inspiring personalities; Sunil Prajapati, Dinesh Chapagain, and Singha Lama joined the program. Students learned a lot more about different skills and expanded their understanding.

We value every student in our care and it is our aim to provide quality education with the best environment possible.
