BALANCING PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES AND FOCUS: DOES EXERCISE IMPROVE CLASSROOM CONCENTRATION?
2025-09-13
Have you ever noticed that it is easier to concentrate when you do some light exercise or even by playing outside or going for a walk?
That's because exercise not only helps the body, it also helps our mind. This way both our body and mind can work together to help us do our best in class. When we do not move or exercise we may feel sleepy and bored.
Exercise only does not mean sports or any physical activities. It can be yoga, meditation or even going on a walk. These kinds of exercises and meditations can help students like us to feel more calm and focused during the class time. In my school we have yoga class every week and I think it really helps the students to feel peaceful and ready to learn. After yoga class we feel fresh and more energetic. Not only do we feel more active and ready to study more, we also learn about the benefits of doing yoga and meditation theoretically.
When we move our body our brain gets more oxygen and blood and that helps us to think clearly. This is why students who do exercise can focus better and also remember things more. When we only sit and study for a long time without moving we feel bored or sleepy and we stop paying attention .Even short exercises like walking or stretching during breaks can make us more active again.Teachers in many schools let the students do some fun warmup activities which can help the students feel active and more involved in that subject. This helps a lot to stay focused in class.
Parents can also help their children to balance physical activity and their studies. They can take them on short walks or tell us to stretch or do yoga in the morning or before going to school. It is also way better than just looking at mobile or TV for many hours. Students should play outside sometimes after homework so their brain doesn’t get tired. Teachers also can help by giving a little time for warmup or some meditation. It does not have to be a big thing, just small activity which can help our brain and body to get more interested and active.
In conclusion, I believe that exercise really helps students concentrate in the classroom. It makes our body strong and our brain more sharp. In my school weekly yoga class shows how good it is because we feel relaxed and ready to learn better that day. If all students get time to move their body and not just sit with books all day, they will study better and feel more happy. Too much sitting is not good for the brain. We need to balance study and movement every day to learn in the best way.
